“Like gold refined by fire, when one breaks away from slave
mentality, one emerges shining like the rising sun” - Tokyo Sexwale
ABOUT THE BOOK
Overcoming slave mentality is a battle of ideas and ideologies that are ravaging
nations, decimating people’s self-worth, capturing leaders and caging them in
comfort masked with mediocrity. Prayer alone cannot cure it because it is not
up to God to remove, but up to us to take responsibility of our lives and make
something of it. God gave us lands, but we must cultivate them. God gave us
minds, we must use them. Slave mentality is surrendering our lives to chance
and we all know that which is left to chance stands no chance. True freedom
is not based on the favourable circumstances around us, but on the mental
condition within us. Historical injustices cannot remain an eternal excuse over
our current circumstances. The author of this book contends that help from
without is only good when it is backed by help from within. The difference
between the various people groups in the world is not the colour of their skin
or their geography, but it is in what they do with what God has given them. It’s
all in the mind. The mind sets the boundaries of achievement and how high we
can soar. That is why we must break slave mentality so as to experience the true
version of ourselves and be free from self-imposed limitations.
